      The spirit of the rule is to keep the memes community from being a place for proselytizing one’s politics.

      So, for example, using a >50 year old event in a meme to show “this is why communism is bad” or “It’s like we’re all on the Titanic, because we’ve gotta watch out for ICE!” would both be rule-breaking, but something like “local man named Abe Lincoln refuses to go to theater” would be fair game.

    It’s amazing how many people are raging about the rules of a couple communities about no politics when I can count dozens of active communities who are political based.

    Everything’s over. I’m mentally drained. I just want to zone out and look at memes.

      americans are just pathetic. that is the problem. pruderie was the beginning. the cuckholders from across the pond fell for the silicon valley fear like there can be only a bot ruling us all because ppl are bad. i think it is more amazing that americans can even breathe by themselvs. so “real” politics would blow their “mind”.

    Thank you for this. I know some people won’t appreciate it but not every community needs to be a full time political outlet.

      Sometimes people want a breather, myself included. If there weren’t so many other places to browse that kind of content, we wouldn’t have the rule.

      The population on Lemmy is very politically aware and has strong opinions, which is good, however that also means that it’s very easy for any community to become overwhelmed by it and suddenly have little else.
