It was more me venting as like everything meta/fb touches turns to shit… And this time its effecting me directly.

Last company I work for replace MS with Google, oh it was a shit show… Had to be on chrome, but chrome doesn’t work with most of our M&C gear so we needed FF. IT pushes back that you have to use chrome. We push back it will cost millions to retool\reprogram the M&C to use chrome and their department can pay for it.

You can guess we got FF installed after that VP to VP conversation.

They are still butt hurt over that when I moved on. IT forgets they have a paycheck because of operation and production…

I do still have a shit ton of CD’s. I actually forgot about them until you mentioned it. Yet nothing to play them on lol. The rest is .MP3 or ripped from my CD’s

I do have an old whatever the other version of blue ray player was. They were giving them away and they can play DVDs so I grabbed on as that format failed.

Got VHS and a deck, also got an Hi8 deck but thats more for vacation movies\4 wheeling when I was a kid.

I do have a bunch of laser disc’s but never bought a player. I need to as I have all the original Star Wars and others waiting to be played :)

I have a buddy that worked comm’s at the remote firefighter camps. He always said this was the biggest issue the smoke jumpers/FF’s talked about.

I think we should keep the coal plant in warm storage just in case. One big hail storm/tornado could cripple this system. Just food for thought in an emergency.

I work in this industry and its hard enough to get a GEO/LEO bird in the air let alone a data center…

I have been working in data centers for decades. You have no idea the amount of waste there is. We fill up roll away dumpsters w/ boxes/packing materials when a new customer comes in.

They do an upgrade, ever server/switch/router etc ends up in the dumpster. Even if they are perfectly good and it isn’t worth shipping back or they have devalued to zero so they cannot be sold for tax purposes. Oh and another round of boxes/packing materials in the dumpster.

Some customers demand proof we destroy their servers (not drives). So we record one of us on a fork truck running over hundreds of servers. That part is kinda fun.

Areas uninsulated w/ AC blasting. Machines running that are idle as backup to the backup.

On paper we recycle them, but most of the time they end up in a landfill.

I made an AR15 with a hobby drill press from Lowes at work. Give me a hunk of metal, a micrometer and a file and I can make you a gun.
