In California national parks, they will start controlled fires on occasion just because fires can be beneficial to growth. The plant debris can block light and stuff, and burning it turns to ash that helps add nutrients back into the soil.

You can’t copyright a concept, but you can patent one. The lawsuit was over patents, not copyrights. They even tried to retroactively apply for more patents to strengthen their case before the lawsuit was over, but they were refused. At least in Japan.
