Watching Death Note with my partner and they asked “How do you know which Death Note is yours?” And the obvious answer seemed potentially fatal.

Actually, one of the rules is:
and also:
But if that’s true then it implies you will die if you write it anywhere else, which breaks another rule:
Which can also conflict with Rule IX for an immortality hack:
But then they already patched it I guess:
My interpretation is that “the” and “a” is doing a lot of work there. Maybe a translation quirk? It reads like, if it’s misspelt 4 times in THE death note (the one you’re holding), but later on it clarifies that it doesn’t make you immune from ANY death note. So it’s not so much complete immortality as limited exclusion to prevent abuse, which makes sense if you imagine some Eldritch death God being spammed with junk assassination requests
It’s complete immortality if Ryuk’s rule about writing his name in THE deathnote was true, because even if Ryuk wanted to he can’t.
About the immortality hack, I saw a skit where Light gave the businessman kira a misspelling of his own name and told him to write it four times. Light is now free from the death note’s influence since the other kira did not purposely misspell it.
Nice, Shinigami Kami about to drop another new rule lmao
I think solidjj did a video on the ridiculous rules.
