The biggest value of the PinePhone wasn’t the hardware itself but giving mainline Linux developers a stable target. That’s a contribution that’s easy to overlook a few years later.

This is such a weird one, they keep doing cool open source stuff but their hardware is so bad it almost feels like they’re, idk, “FOSSwashing” their products to get nerds to buy them. I really, really tried to daily the PPPro, but man I just couldn’t.
Agreed. I wouldn’t mind having a phone with specs worse than current gen phones, but the pinephone is really quite bad
Some of their hardware is excellent though, like the Pinecil

Yeah, but it’s an excellent soldering iron and if it works there’s no need to update.
There’s no security risk. It does not connect to te internet.
The Pinephone was great for getting some mobile Linux projects back on track, but it’s not something that can actually be a decent phone.
The Pinecil seems to be their best quality product, weirdly.
There very much is a security risk with the pincel since it uses bluetooth. Lessened since it isn’t classic IOT bs, but still important to make sure it has its security updates.
Oh, Pinecil v2 has Bluetooth. Weird.
Anyway, for those that don’t have the new model, it does not matter. And I’m pretty sure for the v2 it is not necessary to have it on.
The Pinecil works fine without it already.
