You are trying to solve the issue of discovery by replicating the whole fediverse to your instance local database.
That’s a separate conversation to be had, but a network that is only meant for authenticated users can certainly offer better protections than a protocol where everything is openly published and distributed to the whole public internet.

“Good moderation” takes effort and time, which most people running their own blogs might not be interested in dealing with. Unless you are offering yourself to do “good moderation” for people in exchange of access to their comment section, adding a paywall as a barrier is a perfectly valid approach.
Kind of ironic allowing only paid users to comment on a blog talking about the Fediverse.
It is a great way to avoid spam bots.
The best way to see whether it would work is by checking how the actor from flipboard is presented. Go to https://browser.pub/@[email protected] and tou will see that it does not have the attributes that Lemmy expects.
There is no need to change activitypub for that. Relays already do exactly what you are asking.

Community underfunded. What the community is giving out barely covers the cost of the hardware, much less the labor of the admins.
Last year I considered offering accounts via a Caffe Sospeso on Communick, but it quickly became clear that is was going to suffer from the tragedy of the commons. Everyone that was willing to bear the actual operating costs would prefer to run their own servers to serve themselves, and the ones that were asking for “community supported” accounts were overwhelming just interested in free-riding.
Very, but last I checked Flipboard’s federation had some bugs that were not possible to work around… announced activities did not have a stable timestamp, it uses only the magazine as the actor (so we have no way to interact with the person that actually flipped/commented on their topic, etc). But it would be really cool if flipboard users could have Lemmy communities mapped to their magazines, so make the interaction between the two sides seamless. @[email protected] , what do you think?
I agree with your diagnosis, but I disagree with your treatment. You are doing the same mistake I did when I implemented content mirroring on alien.top: you are putting out so much automated “content” that outsiders will look at this and think the community is just a place for you to dump links.
Also, please drop the main character syndrome and the “Reddit agent” paranoia. You have multiple people here telling you that your approach is harmful to the groups that are already here. It’s not a conspiracy. Reddit doesn’t care about you.

That is not fully correct. The index the data from the different personal data servers, and they host the largest personal data server out there, but you can have your own PDS and interact with other Bluesky users without having to rely on their data.
This means each one has its own data model, internal storage architecture, and streams/APIs.
Yeah, but why? ActivityPub already provides the “data model” and the API. Internal storage is an implementation detail. Why do we continue to accept this idea that each different mode of interaction with the social graph requires an entirely separate server?
Because they were built for different purposes, they support different features
Like OP said, on bluesky is possible to have different “shells” that interact with the network. Why wouldn’t that be possible on ActivityPub?
