AI has gotten its first taste for blood. When Skynet?
Yeah, this is exactly the problem with monopolies. They got too big to fail and they expect a fucking bail out from the taxpayers every time.
We should let them fail. We should break them up in a smaller pieces. The pieces that don’t make any money disappear. The ones that have some financial stability should continue to exist.
But the true purpose of capitalism is efficiency through Consolidation. The only way to limit capitalisms damaging affects is by regulation. Which will never happen in our current environment because the capitalist oligarch scumfucks bought all parts of the government in order to continue to receive free money from the banks and the government when they fuck up.
Oh by the way, they also want to take all the proceeds from their ludicrous stoxk valuations when the stock market is good and they want to take your pension fund when the stocks tank because they fucked up and spent all of everyone else’s money.
Maybe if we don’t pay them out this time private equity will learn something and stop buying and ruining companies in order to invest the ridiculous proceeds into stupid risky speculation on unproven technology.

All those rare earth minerals and silicon will just burn up. What a waste. There needs to be legislation that if you put satellite in orbit you are responsible for recovering them at End of Life.
Burning up in the atmosphere is pollution that we don’t even understand how it affects the upper atmosphere.

If you think those datacenters being built are for LLMs only, I have a bridge to sell you.
ML and LLMs both need massive compute to work with the data sets involved.

Yeah no shit Sherlock. AI chat bots are just a way to market and sell a dystopian surveillance apparatus to the masses wrapped in the guise of it will right your bullshit corporate emails and messages for you all the while the government and the corporations are fucking you in the ass.
It was a barely functional technology that provides convenience and laziness well hiding it’s true purpose, Machine learning algorithms for facial recognition license prints tracking making it efficient and relatively economical to spy on and control an entire population.

Sure. I don’t think Netflix role is to spread propaganda necessarily, I think their role is just the general dumbing down of the masses.
Netflix like any other major studio has a role as gatekeeper for the style of content the tone the quality of narrative and writing that shapes to some extensive societies views.
While I’m not gonna put my tinfoil hat and say it’s on purpose, they are certainly contributing and affecting the public’s perceptions and therefore adding to the general cognitive decline.
A lot of recent shows are written in such a way that people watching their phones and not paying attention can still follow the plot line because the plot is constantly being explained, over and over.
I think in general this is also an indication of peoples literacy continued to go down and the effects of people therefore writing less and exploring topics that are controversial or make you feel uncomfortable. It’s much easier to make your 43rd Marvel movie following the same expected formula introduced some superheroes make them work together even though they don’t like each other save the world and everything’s OK until the next movie.
While this is a reflection of the times and reality, meaning people get bored of shitty watered down shows and lose the plot and in order to keep them engaged, you need to keep explaining the plot they missed because they were staring at their fucking phone. This does encourage people to stop paying attention partly because these shows kind of suck.
So while it’s better that Netflix buys Warner Beithers for their content and catalog; it doesn’t really address the wider picture that writing and literacy are in decline. This leads to shittier less controversial shows and media. The consolidation of all of these libraries, which are already consolidated, just means it’s easier to bury stuff and create new garbage.
Since Netflix has a finite amount of server space for their streaming catalog, it might be better in terms of being able to rotate content, but I don’t think they’re gonna make it a Disney-like service where everything that Warner ever bought and produced is just gonna always be available.
The other point I have is, Even if Netflix buys Warner Brothers for however many billion dollars they have to earn the money back on that investment somehow. Subscription fees do not cover that type of investment or profitability.
What used to support the movie and TV industry was distribution of physical media like DVDs, VHS, etc. Long after the shows expenses have been recouped or the show was no longer in circulation or the air. Not to mention that syndication and selling licenses and rights to reruns on different cable channels was also another stream of income for the companies like Warner that owned intellectual property.
Since cable television is dying industry as well, where are you going to recoup this money from buying this massive catalog without a DVD and home market as well as any competitors that are going to pay for your shows?
Netflix will make content that they newly acquired only watchable on Netflix to charge extra subscription fees. That’s basically what they can monetize with this on top of whatever your basic subscription fees. How long is it gonna take them to the recoup whatever it cost to buy Warner Brothers?

What fucking competition is left? Every media conglomerate is owned by some rich billionaire asshole. What exactly are they competing against? Who can put out the most convincing propaganda?

Isn’t this what Russia and China do? Communism! You will obey the party or face the consequences!
