Probably the right decision given there’s no way to truly tell what level of AI generation or effort within the project itself with AI has taken place.
I understand the willingness to ban low effort low quality one shot projects, but given most software nowadays incorporating some level of LLMs, I can’t ever see a blanket ban working out anywhere.

I think the goal here is to get the general population off Discord and moved into a more open platform.
IRC is great but I can’t see the average user using it unfortunately. Every platform has its own goal, but the ultimate community goal is whatever pushes us to an open social space is a net positive imo!

Colibri to my knowledge is basically doing public chats until private spaces are in a better spot then doing private spaces for private groups.
Roomy.space is another one of these who built their own private spaces on atproto and would be worth checking out.
Also Atproto isn’t inherently a bad place for this since it can be a hybrid system of on or off protocol, or using their upcoming permissioned data spaces for private data.
It’s interesting I have the exact opposite perspective with AI in regards to selfhosting.
The customizability is now endless for me, I can do anything, customize anything, problems that are typically 1-2 hours are fixed in <5 minutes.
Don’t want to fiddle w/ a GUI? Shoot off a message and it’s done.

Youre probably looking more for something like the atmosphere (bluesky network) where you have one identity for every app.
But as the other guy said definitely in an ideal world everything communicates with everything cleanly.
I had tons of stability issues within the last year unfortunately, I would still recommend against it.

I still think it’s odd to ban AI outright, it’s incredibly democratizing for smaller platforms and enables them to keep up with without getting bogged down in the drudgery of bug fixes / testing.

OP if you don’t mind running this through a Hermes / OpenClaw harness this is probably the easiest way with pre built email connectors. Also if you don’t mind spending a few bucks a month DeepSeek v4 will blow out anything you run locally for pennies (or gpt luna as of last wed.)
It can also set up its own custom connector if needed and run as needed via CRON.

Almost everyone in the industry worth their weight is using LLMs now. Top tier models create really solid code nowadays.

What is the last fad that the entire industry adopted in 9 months?
If cost per intelligence is going down, and compute capacity is rising I can’t see a world where token pricing will go up.

Programming was never enjoyable to me.
Making things is. LLMs allow you to be extremely pragmatic and enjoy making things or troubleshooting things without tedious line by line nature.

Leetcode seems pretty useless right now. I think a take home, the results, and a conversation will lead to a really solid hiring signal though.

The entire world of software is using AI. It’s so strange to me we’re allowing big corporations like Microsoft, Google, Reddit, etc devs take advantage of it for efficiency gains then turning around and criticizing and scoffing at solo dev projects who want to push the Internet to a better place.
By all means it’s your right to say you don’t want to use anything built with AI, but at this point you’re better just leaving the Internet wholesale.

Anyone have any recommendations?
I use Linux, VPNs, Firefox, etc. These have all given me access problems with anyone who does custom bot prevention implementations, but I’ve never had a problem with a Cloudfare site.
