I use Munin for monitoring and XMPP for alerts via go-sendxmpp. That way I just configure munin like this:
contact.admin.command go-sendxmpp -u [bot_username] --password [bot_password] [contact]And that sends me messages to my main XMPP account whenever my servers breach a limit.

Technology@lemmy.world•OpenAI agent hacks Australia's Medicare in world's first known AI breach of government bodyEnglish
56·26 days agoThe breach happened in June but Open AI only became aware of it in August. It notified the government via an email, external to a general inbox on 10 September
This is just atrocious on every level. First of all, they’re hacking everyone with impunity. Then, they’re taking 2 months to find out about it, and a further month to report it. So not only can they not control their AI, as a company they clearly have no systems in place to report it either.
Ahhh, sorry to hear it :(
I should have play with dollies as a kid instead of computers
Probably we’d all be happier :)
So, that probably means I will try Jami again one more time and then just switch to Snikket.
Good luck! I hope it goes well
I can highly recommend feed2exec. It’s super flexible and lets you easily do anything off the back of an RSS feed item. This way you can abstract away the matrix side and write a minimal matrix plugin to send to matrix rooms, or you can generate static html pages to self-host, or anything else you want within the same framework.
I use it to:
- Save RSS feed entries as plain-text files, so I can read them in
less - Download podcasts, running a pass of
ffmpegover each to reduce file size - Watch releases of open source projects and add a task in taskwarrior for me to review and/or update them
- Save RSS feed entries as plain-text files, so I can read them in
I never tried deploying Jami, as I settled on XMPP for this use-case. But, let us know how it goes if you do try it! I haven’t seen many review it before so I’d be interested to hear your experience.
neither are encrypted, so don’t use them for anything sensitive
I run XMPP - just wanted to say that all major XMPP clients (the ones I’m thinking of are Conversations, Monal, Dino and Gajim, among others) encrypt-by-default, you have to actively go out of your way to disable it per contact.
Hi, I’m choosing this comment to reply to everyone at once, since there’s a lot of overlap in the comments.
I’m sorry for not following the etiquette of the community. I’ve updated the post to contain a blurb to explain why I liked the article. I hope it’s ok but if there are any problems I’m happy to amend it or change the focus of the blurb.
I was careful to check the rules before posting, and in all other communities I actively participate in, link-only posts are completely fine, so I didn’t even stop to think it could be a problem. I now appreciate that this is not the followed norm of this community though. I can see that it could be easily misinterpreted as self-promotion, since I didn’t state I wasn’t the authour of the post. I have subscribed to this community for a while and made a couple of comments, but this is my first post here and with the posts mixed in the rest of the feed, I guess I didn’t build a good sense of the unwritten norms of the community.
I am not the authour of the blog post. This is the personal blog post of someone who works for the Sovereign Tech Agency. I appreciate their posts because they took a very thoughtful approach to why they are self-hosting certain things. Their technical approach is an extension of the “why” they are doing it and this is very clearly and explicitly laid out. This is something I quite like, and at least in the blogs I follow, relatively unique.
I am based in the UK. I always catch up on my RSS feeds before i go to bed, and if I see something interesting, I tend to share it on lemmy. I only woke up again now because of the heatwave here! Another lesson learned, if posting to this community again, do it while I’m available for the next few hours.

Thank you for the recommendation! After deliberating back and forth over whether to go with this or a DIY solution, I ended up buying this one.
I saw a tildes comment talking about this adapter. I’m thinking that, once we finish the first couple of refills, we can decide whether we want to get a bigger donor cylinder to refill them through this.
And then, if this ever does break, we can switch to a full DIY solution at that point, since we’ll then have more hands-on experience with the larger cylinders. So, we can gradually ease into a more DIY approach once we’ve shown we’ll stick with it, and have a bit more confidence.
