Tech journalists have been largely just pr mouthpieces for a long while now. I’m sure the reason they keep using rogue in this instance is because that’s what the companies want the public to think. Rogue is both cool sounding and implies these actions can be done out of the box. At the same time it is also putting forward the lie that was acting on its own behalf for both legal reasons and to imply agency within itself.
