Maybe the joke is that the comments would quibble over details that are fleeting in time and transcend operating systems instead.

2·6 days agoNow displaced warehouse workers learn to maintain or program the bots and adapt to new jobs, but at some point, all this bot productivity should be taxed too or the wealth keeps concentrating among the few, rather than revenue to build better society for We The People.

2·6 days agoLet us not base policy choices on feels, be open to learning proven ways, and use Sagan’s baloney detection kit to understand what really helps people do better. People get indoctrinated and brainwashed into unhealthy ideas, tribalism, and use excuse that they don’t want to risk their benefits of belonging by questioning them or their feels. They can choose to leave unhealthy ways and meet better people. Maybe thinking is too hard and they don’t have time, due to artificial scarcity of these bad policies, or numb with mindless algorithms, so they do what their crowd does, what the media brainwashes them to fear. Critical thinking and doing the right things, actual courage is too hard.
The US has regressed in healthcare and other quality of life, due to the swings back to maga, and people unaware how long it takes to rebuild the destruction they cause each time. Dems rarely have enough majority with the lopsided system, and too many voters don’t understand all this and choose to flip back due to feels, and the world is worse off for it… again.

22·6 days agoAgreed, I tend to get more interested in topics and learn more than I expected, for new neural networks. I think it’s like any tool and using it right can be useful. Our brains can make new connections learning about different topics and how they are related, systems thinking and problem solving. We can search online and read the sources directly too, and verify more with increasing importance of the topic. For example, going to defend yourself in court, do a lot of research from quality sources and still reconsider lol. Just like large claims require large evidence, same idea for other resources including llms, and no need to avoid it like it’s some new Witch panic. The energy people use daily mindlessly absorbing video streams is more than text based llm use and follow up confirmations.
Learning new things and recognizing connections between topics is beneficial for the brain, as it strengthens neural pathways and enhances understanding. This process, known as neuroplasticity, allows the brain to adapt and improve its ability to learn over time

Technology@lemmy.world•Retailers are pulling back from self-checkout after years of theft, errors, and questionable time savingsEnglish
1·10 days agoSome of the pros around here are not very good and take longer than I do, but the Aldi ones are usually fast with those giant barcodes! The last one, however, charged me for two melons but I didn’t have any, removed one, but not the 2nd so I had to go back over. My data points and the workmanship around here show sometimes quicker than me, but not if a line for them and none for diy.

22·10 days agoThat sucks, I DIY if the store has baggers since they don’t do it well 8/10 times and I check the prices as I scan to see if the discounts applied. I’m pretty fast, and now if they remove them, I could do the job really well and bagger, I gained skills from the experience for possible future use.

4·12 days agoMr. Money Mustache’s latest post is about this and I hope is right. Basically he thinks it will not destroy retirement, viewing market panic as a recurring historical pattern driven by fear rather than fundamental economic ruin. Instead of reacting to macroeconomic anxiety, he emphasizes that true wealth stems from human productivity and resilience, suggesting individuals ignore the news cycle and focus on personal financial habits. Also recaps the basics so a great reatd. We can do it one step at a time to increase freedom!

It will be interesting to see, but stories have come out for a while about some thing will pop the bubble, and a big recession has been right around the corner for at least a decade. What stage is this bubble in the progression to the .com pop, months, a year? Or is this different, with more profitable companies investing in infrastructure, rather than speculative startups without clear revenue plans? That was part of the take MMM made and I want to be hopeful. It reminded me about my circle of control, reduce attachment to outcomes beyond it, but do what I want within my circle. mrmoneymustache.com/2026/09/25/will-the-ai-bubble-destroy-our-retirement/
