I’ve read through just out of curiosity. The severance package is:
- 16 weeks of pay
- 1 week of pay for every year worked at the company
- healthcare insurance until the end of the year
- 1500$ to buy a laptop
Is this common in the US? This really feels like nothing. I do not know whether there are other remunerations funded by the government, but 4 months of pay after being laid off really is not very much.
Is this company paying out a very small sum to their employees or is it common to give very little money to fired people?
“First, the people who work at Patreon are special, beautiful humans, through and through.”
Second… Fuck those worthless humans, we want endless growth until we die sad and still unfulfilled.
Pamplemoose guy, you suck.
Combined with the fee increase to 10%, this seems like an effort to boost profitability for an IPO.
Unfortunate that the plan is to go public. Ideally the people who run it would be valued as stewards and curators instead of interchangeable cogs.
I hope to see one of these DIY platforms eventually become a cooperative.
Not patreon style but etsy style, I have hope for Mayhem Marketplace. There’s also a POC run marketplace that’s supposed to be co-op but I haven’t seen anything on it recently and can’t remember the name.
Capitalism ain’t ever gonna be your friend. Not gonna be a friend to artists who outlive their usefulness, either.
I will start asking creators I support to switch to Ko-fi.
I wish they’d just switch to Zelle…
Or ghost.org
Patron fires mostly middle manager, gives a great 16 week severance plus a year of healthcare and extras, says AI isn’t replacing employees, and y’all still screeching 🤣
Nothing will ever make you happy 🤣
People losing their jobs should never make anyne happy.
Middle managers losing their jobs will always make me happy
Not if they’re middle management, there’s not anyone who does actually does anything useful there.
But it does have to happen at times 🤷♂️ and here y’all are screeching
This is either b8 or you’re just not a very nice person.
👌👍
Why does it have to happen?
What are you on about? It’s literally enshittification. We’ve seen this 1000 times before, from 1000 different services and companies. That’s why people recognize the beginning…
Maybe they should start a Patron to raise funds…
I know how important it is for folks to be able to say goodbye, so we’ve created a #gratitude-and-farewell Slack channel as a place for all of us to connect, if you feel comfortable.
Getting your ass kicked out the door, but you’re supposed to feel grateful ffs
Let me say, as a person who worked at a company that used to silently disappear people, it sucked finding out in Thursday that so-and-so has been gone for a week and a half and wasn’t coming back.
So I, at least, appreciate the idea that they get to communicate at all.
News still sucks, but I wanted to throw that in
it sucked finding out in Thursday that so-and-so has been gone for a week and a half and wasn’t coming back.
Only thing worse than that is finding out day of because you’re the one that has to terminate all their accounts. Did that to two of my coworkers in the span of about 18 months…
Pretty sure this is for people to thank their departing friends and teammates. Not the other way around.
so many youtube creators depend on patreon, wonder where they go next.
Yeah I’m sure they’ll leave in mass 🙄
…en masse
No, they’ll leave during church service!
Do all Christians call it mass, or is that just a Catholic thing…? 🤔

I support a podcast on Patreon but the special content has never worked properly for subscribers.
