The U.S. has struck a deal to take majority control of more than 65 billion barrels of Venezuela’s oil reserves, nine months after the U.S. military abducted President Nicolás Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores in a raid on Caracas and two months after The New York Times revealed that U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has become the de facto viceroy of Venezuela, effectively controlling Venezuela’s finances, the distribution of its natural resources and its government. The new oil deal gives the Department of Defense a 35% stake in a joint U.S.-Venezuelan private company that now holds 100-year leases to 17 oil fields. It also gives the U.S. the right to buy some of the oil produced at cost — a major triumph for the Trump administration as the war on Iran depletes the United States’ strategic oil reserves. Venezuela’s acting President Delcy Rodríguez claims U.S. investment in Venezuela’s oil industry will jumpstart the country’s floundering economy, but critics, including Venezuelan economist Francisco Rodríguez, say the deal is not only “unfavorable to Venezuela” but also appears to violate the Venezuelan Constitution.

Yeah well a lot of this stuff is bigger than just the oil cartels, and many of the swells involved in the oil trade have long been neck deep in toppling Venezuela, even if the corporate governance has concluded the risk analysis makes it a bad deal.
But totally he’s a tool of theirs. But he’s a tool of a lot of groups, Israel, tech, pharma, wall street, and all the rest.
He’s the type to make them play ball on his bullshit here in exchange for some new favour he will do them I bet. He only is offering the favour because big oil is powerful enough to hurt him if they wanted in ways big and small. If they were powerless to damage him he wouldn’t offer them anything, I strongly presume.
The thing is, the Venezuela raid was mostly a lie. They made a deal with security services to seize their president. There is no way the US military would attempt that op, low flying apache’s, unless the mobilized venezuelan military in one of their most protected spots in the nation stands down. Truck mounted machine guns, manpads, rpg’s, other russian gear, helicopters are vulnerable.
Oil knows all of this, they don’t think it will stay stable.
