Unfortunately, there is a massive leap from genetics to treatment. Many diseases genes get cloned and then nothing progresses. This is compounded by governments worldwide that are scaling back biomedical research while spending orders of magnitude more money on war toys.

It’s difficult to underestimate how much damage Trump did to medical research, and in a few years most suppliers for this research will be gone, the next generation of scientists does not exist.

Don’t take it too hard. Remember that these “diagnoses” are simply a subjective description of “symptoms”, which makes these genetic correlations basically meaningless (see my other comment). There is nothing objectively or physically wrong with your kid as far as we know. He might just grow out of it, if they’re don’t dose him out on drugs ($$$!).

edit: Gotta love the downvotes. People really support exploiting children and their families for the profits of psychiatry and similar pseudo-science.

I down voted for science denial, bipolar is absolutely a thing and is problematic for almost everyone with it or related to someone with it. The statement there’s nothing wrong is the same mentality of “I don’t see color” if you don’t acknowledge the issue those who need support won’t get it, your comment is ableist in its denial.

Bipolar disorder(s) is very distinct to borderline personality disorder, and to the extent of my limited understanding the management is more reliable in the right social circumstances.

I assumed BPD but yes, I agree, both are real and saying otherwise and acting like getting care is a scam is an ableist perspective be it bipolar or borderline

Oh yes multiple personality disorder was once a thing…

So was Asperger’s, Hysteria, lunatic, Retarded, Imbecile, Vapours, etc.

So you basically down voted out of ignorance of the point. To top it off you accused him of ableism. Complete bullshit.

BPD is very much real. And there is no medical/pharmaceutical treatment. The only “effective” treatment is dialectic behavioral therapy. And that takes constant effort by those with BPD which, as you might imagine, is very difficult.
