I don’t know much about it at all and cannot find much, but I have recently heard of Kamtape. The site has the look of July 2005, apparently, but I think it might go the way of most every other noncorporate video platform like Odysee and Rumble and start getting filled with unsavory people.
And unless Odysee has changed, we ain’t got really any alternatives besides just blocking ads or Peertube. Even then, it would be real hard to get creators to move onto either platform for not wanting to deal with a site where slurs can be reported but aren’t guaranteed to be removed ( in the case of Odysee ) and payment isn’t as guaranteed as it is with yt ( which is already shaky as all hell )
One day we will have a peer to peer video sharing platform… One day…

I’ve used peertube. Not a lot of good stuff on there. And I guess that’s the problem with trying to vie against YouTube – you’ll always start at zero.
I’d contribute, but I don’t make internet videos.
Chicken and egg problem. I really wish that more youtubers at least trip loaded their videos on peertube. Peertube even has an option to automatically mirror a YouTube channel effortlessly.
You can contribute differently. Archive YouTube channels or re-upload memes or video-guides.

i just blocked the entire front page of yt, I don’t remember seeing a single suggested video which i didn’t regret watching.
I go there to look something up. Usually videos on how to replace something on my car, that sort.
I don’t understand blindly sifting through videos. What’a stupid fucking waste of time.
it’s a type of entertainment, like watching tv or Netflix. that much i can understand. mainly because i mostly use it for those reasons, but i just follow particular creators. just each time you go there you get some complete bs suggestions, which are always clickbait. on top recently a lot of that “content” is so obvious to be entirely ai generated. the yt algorithm just sucks. at least for me… but somehow that is how a lot of ppl earn their livelihood.
Most of it absolute bullshit designed to piss people off… Hell even a lot of the “how to” videos contain a lot of rage bait. Can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen a mechanic doing something obviously wrong (and stupid) to generate “engagement” in the comments…
So yeah, I go look something up like how to install a car wrap (last night’s video).
One guy was obviously a moron, skipped it. Next guy kind of seemed to know what he was doing. Then I was done.
Maybe if it’s an exceptionally good video I’ll give it a like, but I never comment and I NEVER subscribe. And when I’m done, I close the window.
yeah, in the old days, yt was paying per view. now they pay for the time the viewer sticks around on the platform. therefore videos get unnecessary prolonged and such interactions get promoted.
i have a couple of authors which i follow, so that i don’t need to look up and simply filter out what might be interesting to me.
but i would much prefer to get those videos via other channels. at some point i had a program set up, which just grabs videos from the author i choose to my local machine, but my home server is currently not up and disc space became a serious budget issue.
I like shorts. I say this again and again: Curate your shorts by liking and subscribing. Press “don’t recommend this channel” for shit you don’t want to see.

Like, I had to buy new phone two years ago, cause my previous phone was falling apart (literally, I had to reglue the screen) and the only good option that was on the market without annoying notch for front-facing camera - was nubia z70. No notch, no weird “eyebrow”, nothing. Just screen, as it fucking supposed to be. Long story short, it have pretty fast snapdragon, but there no roms cause of that. Plus bootloader straight up locked from the factory and afaik, there no way to unlock it easily.
