In Kryvyi Rih, a 43-year-old man who is raising a minor son on his own was mobilized. The child was sent to an orphanage.
This was reported by the outlet “Svoi. Kryvyi Rih,” citing people familiar with the situation.
According to the publication, the Kryvyi Rih resident came on a summons to the Central-City TCC to clarify data. After that, he no longer stayed in contact with his son, despite the boy needing care due to a broken arm.
Sources told the outlet that the father’s phone was taken away and he was held in a basement room.
It is reported that the mobilized man is raising his son alone, since his wife left the family and went abroad. At the same time, she has not been stripped of parental rights, and the court ordered the ex-wife to pay alimony.
When the father did not return home from the TCC, the 14-year-old boy went to the police himself.
According to the outlet, a court hearing was supposed to take place today, February 18, at which the mobilized man was to be recognized as a single father. However, the hearing did not take place because representatives of the guardianship authorities did not appear.
In Dnipro on February 16 at about 17:00, representatives of the TCC detained local resident Roman Kostenko. According to his mother Ilona, the man is a single father who has been raising his 4-year-old son alone since his wife’s death.

As the woman told Suspilne: Roman had a deferment, but when TCC representatives approached him, the data did not load in the Reserve+ application.
“He showed his passport and said he had a deferment. They went into the Reserve app to check. Maybe there was some kind of glitch, I don’t know. The deferment didn’t show — that’s what he (my son — ed.) managed to tell me. They just grabbed him; they didn’t give him the chance to call or somehow resolve this issue,” Ilona said.

She added that the next day she brought supporting documents to the TCC where Roman was being held, but this did not change anything.
“I handed over a package of documents through a serviceman. He tried to show them to someone there, to explain. They no longer wanted to. They said that was it — already too late,” the man’s mother said.
Ilona added that among the documents she brought to the TCC was a medical opinion on the health condition of Roman’s 4-year-old son, whom she has now taken in.
“The child has special needs. He does not speak. After his mother’s death there was regression in development. He was in a psychiatric department. In the evening the child had a hysterical episode because he is used to his father putting him to bed,” the woman noted.
According to her, on the morning of February 18 Roman got in touch and reported that he was already in a military unit. Ilona contacted the Defense Ministry hotline and hired a lawyer; she plans to file a complaint with the prosecutor’s office.
How the regional TCC commented
According to regional TCC spokeswoman Olena Kuzina, the man was stopped by a notification group together with a police representative.
“Immediately on the spot it was checked and established that he had no grounds for this deferment. When he arrived at the TCC, of course it was only from his words that he had a child, that he allegedly was a single father. It was not possible to verify this, since he had no documents, not even photos. The system showed that the person had lost the right to deferment, and almost two weeks had passed since then,” she said.
Regarding relatives allegedly bringing documents the next day, Kuzina added:
“As far as I know from this TCC, his relatives did not arrive that day, nor in the following days. Almost two weeks had passed since the loss of the right to deferment, so one way or another the person knew there were problems with the documents. That perhaps something needed to be provided. At that time the person had neither physical documents nor even photos. If he had at least some documents, the situation could have been resolved. Previously the person promptly brought all documents several times, same day, and his deferment was extended. What happened this time that he missed the deadline — I do not know. But the system does warn the person one way or another,” she said.
Captain Artem Tarasyan of the regional TCC mobilization sector noted that documents must be provided before conscription.
“When relatives or family later come and provide documents confirming the real fact of his deferment — that is already irrelevant, because his conscription occurred earlier than those documents were provided. It is desirable that every citizen carry military registration documents,” he said.
What the lawyer and services say
Lawyer Kateryna Uzhva says that if the man had a deferment and the information did not display in Reserve, the notification group had the right to bring him to the TCC. However, the information should have been checked in the database there.
“There is a surname, name, patronymic, there is an identification number, there is his date of birth — all this information the TCC employees should have checked. As I understand it, this was not done. And precisely because of this, I believe the actions of the employees were unlawful,” Kateryna said.
According to the lawyer, the fastest way to resolve the problem for Roman now is to submit a report requesting discharge from service. She noted that whether the child can stay with the grandmother or other relatives while the father is away is decided by guardianship authorities.
“For this, relatives must express the desire to formalize the appropriate guardianship. The child may be placed either in a foster family or in a family-type children’s home,” Kateryna added.
Suspilne contacted the Ombudsman’s Office in Dnipropetrovsk region, which responded that they are currently checking whether the child’s rights were violated.
On January 30, Member of Parliament of Ukraine Oleksii Honcharenko publicly stated on his Facebook page that there had been violations during the mobilization of a resident of Ivano-Frankivsk region, Dmytro Kravets, who has health problems. According to him, the man is a complete orphan with “intellectual disabilities” and kidney failure. Dmytro Kravets is currently at a training ground in Lviv region.
On the same day, the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional TCC stated that the man had not undergone a medical commission and had not updated his military registration data. After passing the MMC (Military Medical Commission), Dmytro Kravets was deemed fit for military service.

Residents of the village of Sukhodil of the Spas community contacted Oleksii Honcharenko, the MP from the party European Solidarity wrote on Facebook.
“This week, the TCC took a guy with severe health problems from the street. Dmytro Kravets is a complete orphan. A person with intellectual disabilities. A person who is not oriented in space, does not understand what day of the week it is, is not capable of adequately assessing reality. Plus kidney failure,” the post says.
According to Honcharenko, Kravets’ diagnoses are confirmed and all documents are available.
“But who in the TCC cares about that, right? They shoved the guy into a van, took him to the MMC, which, as usual, took a few minutes. And that’s it. Today he is already at the training ground in Starychi,” the MP added.
Oleksii Honcharenko also stated that he would submit a parliamentary inquiry regarding the mobilization of Dmytro Kravets.
How the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional TCC responded
Dmytro Kravets had not undergone a medical commission and had not updated his military registration data, therefore he received a summons to appear at the Territorial Center of Recruitment, the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional TCC wrote on its Facebook page. However, the man did not appear within the specified time.
“Later, during notification measures and verification of military registration documents, it was established that citizen Dmytro Kravets had not appeared, and therefore he was offered to voluntarily arrive at the TCC to draw up an administrative protocol,” the post states.
At the premises of the Territorial Center of Recruitment, an administrative protocol was drawn up against Dmytro Kravets, and he was also interviewed. According to the regional TCC, the man stated that he “does not exercise the right” to a deferment from mobilization and has no other grounds for it.
“Therefore, in order to establish the true state of health of citizen Dmytro Kravets, he was referred to undergo the Military Medical Commission, by whose decision and in accordance with analysis from electronic healthcare systems he was recognized as fit for military service,” the regional TCC wrote.
As stated in the post, during his stay at the Territorial Center of Recruitment, Dmytro Kravets “behaved adequately” and did not express complaints against servicemen. The regional TCC also clarified that no “unlawful actions” were applied to him.
“In conclusion: citizen Dmytro Kravets, having no grounds that would exempt him from the obligation to perform military service and in accordance with his determined state of health on the basis of the laws of Ukraine ‘On Mobilization Preparation and Mobilization,’ ‘On Military Duty and Military Service,’ and the presidential decree ‘On Extension of the Term of General Mobilization,’ was sent to one of the training centers,” the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Territorial Center of Recruitment and Social Support stated.
They also clarified that servicemen of the training center communicated with Dmytro Kravets. They reviewed his documents, conducted their own medical examination, and checked his health status in electronic registries.
“He also did not state any claims or complaints. Therefore, citizen Dmytro Kravets was accepted for training. We ask the public not to spread false information and not to draw premature conclusions. Trust official sources and verify information independently,” the regional TCC urged.
