Honestly made me avoid this community.
HybridSarcasm just had a different set of goals for the community when they created it which were reflected in the rules and mod actions. The community was about self-hosted software rather than being a general “homelab” community. Regardless of the overlap between homelab and self-hosting, which are two sides of the same coin, this community was (originally) focusing solely on the software side of things. All of their mod actions reflect that.
Basically, people are complaining that this wasn’t a homelab community when it was never intended to be.
That is an absolutely wild take IMO.
Posts removed had nothing to do with homelab efforts, and included issues with self hosting. So unless you are defining a homelab as “Anything that isnt the software itself being discussed”, which would be a really odd definition for a homelab, then no.
That may have been their intention, but it doesn’t reflect the moderation at all.
While I’m glad this community is more welcoming now, we should avoid threads targeting individuals and focus on the positives going forward.
So I’d appreciate it if you deleted this thread, and if you instead wanted to post one about feeling more welcome now, that would be great!
Edit: and for the record, they weren’t removed. After criticism about the situation they made me a mod and left.
Why does this start with Meta? What does Meta have to do with it?
Meta is a word that has meaning.
Right, OK, it’s not very common so I wasnt sure its context
It’s pretty common line, I’d say much less so IRL, we all got to learn it somewhere :) Yes, I did not mean the evil corpo
Meta in the context of a post is an “about the community” post. They are using the word “meta”, not the terrible company “Meta”.
How can you be toxic without communication? What happened?
From what I read on their profile, they were complaining about posts being deleted by users while also deleting a lot of posts themselves.
Same thought!
Why did they make you avoid a community? You shouldn’t feel bad about blocking people you find problematic.
They were a mod and frequently removed my posts, on another account, without any reason. Always was for rule three. I love selfhosting, I was trying to ditch reddit for here and they consistently killed the vibe.
They were the moderator of this community, so that wouldn’t really help.
