  • I remember carrying around a walkman with a tape. then a walkman with a cd. then a small mp3 player, and then finally a phone.

I simply do not understand why people want to go backward. So inconvenient.

I can take my phone and stream music from my server. If I really want to I can download to the phone (simple drag and drop KDE connect style or syncthing if I want to go that route). I use only FLAC by the way.

Does nobody remember how annoying moving files around actually is?

I don’t have ads on my phone, and I can turn off everything else if I want to only have it as a music player for a period of time. Adding another device just seems silly.

Edit: worth saying: thanks for posting this though, I am interested in seeing gadgets and it is an interesting design and has unique features.

  • I didn’t watch the video, but maybe they said how this done.

If it installed silently, it must be getting pulled in via Windows update right? Where Microsoft just sees this a regular old driver for a device I would imagine?

I have an LG monitor, maybe about 5 years or older. But I don’t have windows so I assume it knows nothing.

EDIT: Nevermind. I went and watched the section at the beginning, and yep that is exactly how it is done. Does windows not even vet what a vendor hands them as a driver? Perhaps they don’t care, but this seems like an easily exploitable route.

  • Failing studios due to their mad rush to build out streaming services, taking on massive debt, and trying to shuffle that debt around. Doesnt help that they don’t pick up movies that are worthwhile and instead try to follow formulas. They want intellectual Property for a long term franchise, park ride, and merch. Consolidation desires IP.

For example on major movies: I saw someone on Nebula say everything that went into making The Barbie Movie was what made it work. But instead of focusing on what THAT was and making a different movie, they immediately start thinking: milk the Barbie movie for a sequel and more merch and a Barbieland.

Point is: they made shitty decisions. I am not sure AI will help because they will still do the above and just pay less people.

At least thats how I see it.

I could see AI being used as a story board, sample scenes, something like that. Beyond that, nah I don’t even want to see it.

  • Started with their first release. So broken compared to everything else at that time.

Now on new releases to this day it still throws weird errors or doesnt work as expected AT INSTALL. Usually reboots will fix some of those issues, sometimes I don’t even know if they are real issues, but it just shows Canonical doesnt make a very good product.

Then sooner or later, with Canonical not able to keep an idea longer than 6 months, something else will break. Its just the Ubuntu way.

Seems like their server version is better, I can’t really complain about it. I don’t have to interact with it much, but it behaves a lot better.

Also, Xbuntu and Kbuntu somehow fared better than Ubuntu, much less problems.

  • First? Redhat.

Used? Gentoo, Debian, Mepis, sidux, peppermint, mint, fedora, cachyos, puppy, damnsmall, evil entity, suse, opensuse, Slackware, arch, and who knows how many more.

Using right now: Debian, fedora, cachyos, opensuse, Slackware. Different distro depending on need and device.

Favorite? Real soft spot for mepis, it made it easy back in the day. Fedora right now: it always just works, there is nothing to do just update and move on. Also Debian. Because Debian.

Worst: Ubuntu. Such a piece of crap, always breaking since first release.
